At this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple announced watchOS 4, the next version of smartwatch operating system. watchOS 4 is not a huge improvement to the operating system, but there are still a lot of new things that are worth your time including three new watch faces, an improved Workout app, a new design in the Music app and more.
To help you get the most out of Apple’s new version of watchOS, we have created a list of five best watchOS 4 features. Before we begin, note that watchOS 4 is now available for testing purposes, so it may include bugs and glitches.
Siri-powered watch face
Siri has been available in watchOS for a while, allowing users to change settings, set timers and alarms, start workouts and more. watchOS 4 introduces a new intelligent Siri watch face that displays the information users need throughout the day. The coolest part is that the watch face automatically updates based on time, daily routine and info from apps on users’ Apple Watch.
In iOS 11, Apple introduces a brand new Dock for the iPad, which sits at the bottom of the display and offers quick access to your most frequently used apps on your tablet. watchOS 4 comes with same Dock, which displays apps in vertical mode. You can scroll through the list of apps by swiping up/down or using the Digital Crown button.
Redesigned Workout app
Fitness tracking serves as the main focus of watchOS 4. Apple has much improved its Workout app in watchOS 4, making it much easier for users to use. Workout app in watchOS 4 gets a new feature called GymKit, which allows users to connect their smartwatch to gym equipment like indoor bikes, treadmills or ellipticals. There’s also support for High Intensity Interval Training workouts and auto-sets for pool swim workouts.
With watchOS 4, Apple added flashlight to control center, which is pretty useful for night-time running. Basically, the new feature will make your watch screen brighter when you turn your wearable away from you. If you are one of those who do your workouts in the evening, the Flashlight feature is really something you don’t want to miss at all.
Person to person payments with Apple Pay
In wachOS 4, Apple Watch owners can make and receive person to person payments using their Apple Watch via the Messages app. Like iOS 11, when you receive money from your friends, it will automatically go into your Apple Pay Cash account and can be used to make purchases using Apple Pay or sent to your bank account.
