AirDrop has been an essential part of iOS since the days of iOS 7, allowing users to transfer files among Mac computers and iOS devices over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The coolest part is that you can send files of any size and type using AirDrop. However, AirDrop sometimes can become a cause of annoyance, as it fails to work properly.
A number of iOS users have reported that they cannot send or receive files using AirDrop. If you are struggling to deal with the issue, then we are here to help. In the section below, we have compiled a list of 3 solutions that help you fix AirDrop not working issue. Before we dive in, make sure you now have the latest software update on your device.
How to fix AirDrop not working on your iPhone
Make sure you have enabled Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
AirDrop requires internet connection and Bluetooth to initiate file transfer. If you cannot send or receive files using AirDrop, then the first step is to check on your internet connection. To do this, select the item you wish to send using AirDrop and then hit Sharing. If Bluetooth or internet connection is now disabled, AirDrop will offer the option to turn them on.
On a Mac, open a Finder window and select AirDrop in the sidebar. After that, you will get the option to turn on Bluetooth if it is now disabled. To activate Wi-Fi on your Mac, click on the Apple Menu at the top and select System Preferences from the drop-down menu. Once you are in, select Network > Wi-Fi and turn on Wi-Fi.
Make sure your AirDrop devices are active
If the problem still persists, then make sure your iOS devices or Mac are now awake. If your phone’s display remains off, you cannot send or receive files using AirDrop. To make sure your display is active, press the Sleep/Wake button to wake up your iPhone. On a Mac, press any key or move your cursor to awaken your computer’s screen.
Airplane mode has been a part of iOS since the launch day. Once enabled, the feature automatically shuts off all your wireless connections on your iPhone. If AirDrop fails to work on your device, then make sure you have disabled Airplane mode.
To turn off Airplane mode on your iPhone, fire up Control Center on your device and then tap the AirDrop icon to turn it off. Alternatively, head to Settings and turn on the switch for Airplane mode.
