Apple TV serves as a great tool for entertainment for users worldwide. Apple has been improving the device for years in an attempt to add up to a better user experience. However, there are exceptions to everything and Apple TV has its own issues.
A lot of users have reported that Apple TV fails to show videos or play sound. If you are one of those users who have been hit by the issue, we have a couple of solutions that help you fix Apple TV that won’t play video or show video.
Before trying to do anything, make sure your Apple TV is still plugged into the power source and status light is now on. If nothing changes, unplug your Apple TV and plug it back in.
How to fix Apple TV that won’t show video or play sound
Make sure HDMI is still working
If the problem still persists, check if your HDMI cable is still working properly. To do this, you simply need to unplug it and then wait for 30 seconds. After that, plug it back into your Apple TV to see if the problem is fixed. If you still cannot hear sound, trying buying a new HDMI cable and repeat the process.
Use another display mode
If your Apple TV is now stuck on Apple logo and the screen stays black, try switching to another display mode to see if the problem is dealt with. If you now own the 4th generation Apple TV, hold Menu and Volume Down buttons for 5 seconds and then release both buttons. After that, hit the OK button and select your resolution.
If you now an older version of Apple TV, hold Menu and Volume Up buttons for 5 seconds, then click on OK and select the resolution.
Restore your Apple TV
If two above-mentioned solutions fail to work for you, the last hope for success is restore your Apple TV via iTunes. The process is pretty simple and we will show you how in the section below.
Step one: Connect your Apple TV to your computer and then open iTunes (make sure you now have the latest version of iTunes on your computer)
Step two: Once you are in, select Apple TV when it shows up and then hit Restore Apple TV.
