How to speed up old iPhone

Apple iPhone is reliable when it comes to performance, but that does not mean that everything runs smoothly and fast. Apple regularly rolls out iOS updates in an attempt to fix bugs and improve overall performance. However, new iOS updates may slow down old iPhone models due to compelling animations and effects.

Last month, Apple confirmed that the company was deliberately slowing down old iPhones to deal with battery problems. Apple’s move raises concerns among the iPhone using community about the ability to fix poor performance on older models.

If you have noticed that your old iPhone is slowing down, then we are here to help. In the section below, we are going to show you how to speed up your old iPhone model. Before trying to do anything, try restarting your device. If nothing is fixed, then read on.

  1. Disable effects

iOS is getting more visually appealing with the introduction of effects and animations. However, those effects may cause older devices to slow down. To do this, open the Settings app from your home screen, then select General and hit Accessibility. Once you are in, tap on Increase Contrast and then turn on the switch next to Reduce Transparency.

You can also turn on Reduce Motion from the Settings. To do this, open Settings > General > Accessibility and turn on the switch to reduce the motion of UI.

  1. Remove apps and free up space

There are tons of apps you no longer need to use in iOS. If you just stand there and do nothing, those app may take a considerable amount of your device’s storage. Therefore, it’s a good idea to delete apps to get some space.

To delete apps, open the Settings app from your home screen and then tap General. After that, hit iPhone Storage and then you should see a list of apps and how much space each specific app is taking up. Now just simply select an app and hit the Delete button.

There is also an option called Offload Unused Apps. Once enabled, the feature automatically offloads unused apps when you are low on storage.

  1. Turn off Background App Refresh

Background App Refresh has been available in iOS for years, allowing iPhone or iPad apps to perform updates even when they are not actively in use. While this comes in handy, many iPhone owners may find it annoying.

To turn off Background App Refresh, launch the Settings app from your home screen and then tap on General. After that, tap Background App Refresh and turn off the switch.

  1. Turn off Siri Suggestions

Siri Suggestions feature has been an essential part of iOS since the days of iOS 9. Basically, the feature automatically offers suggestions when you perform searches with Spotlight on your iPhone.

To turn off Siri Suggestions, open the Settings app and then tap Siri & Search. After that, turn off the switch for Suggestions in Search.
