iPad 3 with Retina Display confirmed for 2012

Representatives of LG Display (LGD) and Samsung Electronics announced that the third generation of the Apple tablet will come in 2012. Unlike iPad 1 and 2 that were with 1024×768 resolution, the third revision will have 2048×1536 resolution, a 9.7-inch form factor will be retained.

According to latest information from the Chinese Chimei Innolux (CMI) will no longer produce LCD panels for Apple (or at least iPad 3) because the company had problems reaching the desired by Steve Jobs and company quality. The same sources indicate that even regular suppliers LG and Samsung have serious difficulties with the use of specification 2048×1536. So they will be joined by Japanese Sharp, which will help in the production of LCD panels for the new tablet.

  1. I’m no Apple fan, but 2048?1536 resolution sure makes me excited. The sharpness of iPhone 4’s “retina” is fantastic, and an iPad with a similar display is impossible to resist.
