Steps to block spam text messages on your iPhone

97Spam messages can be a pain. Most carriers out there are seemingly doing their best to remove unwanted or spam text messages but you’ll still get these annoying messages that just ruin your day.

Previously, iOS users could block a spam text message right within the stock Messages app. However, things have changed. With the release of iOS 10, users now need to add the contact they wish to block to the Contacts app and take “legal action” from the Settings app.

In this step-by-step guide, we will walk you through the steps to block unwanted or spam text messages on your iPhone. Before we begin, make sure that you are running iOS 10 or newer.

Steps to block spam text messages on your iPhone

Step one: First off, you need to add the number you wish to block to the contacts. To do this, head to the conversation for that phone number and hit the person icon at the top

Step two: Next up, you now need to tap Create New Contact from the list of options. Once you are done, you simply need to enter a name for that contact and select Done at the top right corner of the screen

Step three: To block messages from your newly created contact, head back to the home screen and then launch the Settings app

Step four: Scroll down a little bit and tap Messages. From the Message screen, all you need to do is to tap Blocked

Step five: Once you are done, tap Add New at the bottom of the page. After that, type the name of your newly-created contact you wish to block text messages from

Step six: Hit the contact in the results to add that contact to Blocked contact list.

From now on, you will no longer receive text messages from that phone number. You can repeat the above process for other contacts.

  1. You don’t need to add the number as a contact. You just need to:

    1. Open the text message.
    2. Select the “circle with an i” that’s located in the header of the message.
    3. Select the right arrow next to the phone icon in the header.
    4. Select “Block this caller”.
